Dick Harris, Conservative Member of Parliament for Cariboo-Prince George, has lived and worked in Prince George and the central Cariboo area for over 50 years. He previously worked as a successful, self-employed businessman in the tire industry and has a strong background in small business.
First elected to the House of Commons in 1993, Dick was re-elected for his seventh term in the general election on May 2, 2011. Dick is the chair of the National Forestry Caucus, consisting of Members of Parliament from across Canada where forestry is a major concern to their constituency. As the leading spokesperson for the Mountain Pine Beetle issue, Dick’s experience, influence and determination secured a $1 billion commitment of support from Prime Minister Stephen Harper to mitigate the damage caused by the pine beetle infestation in BC. Dick proudly refers to himself as a constituency-focused MP, and lays claim to having the busiest and most effective MP office in Canada. He is a strong supporter of the BC Special Olympics, and hosts the Annual Dick Harris Special Olympics Charity Golf Classic, raising nearly $700,000 to date.
